Rose Matafeo

Rose Matafeo is a BAFTA nominated comedian, writer and actor from New Zealand.

Rose’s critically acclaimed stand up show Horndog won the award (formerly the Perrier) for Best Show at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018 and was nominated for Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival that same year. She later recorded the show as a special for HBO Max. Her recent stand up show On and On and On was also nominated for Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and has sold out runs in Melbourne, Edinburgh, London, New York and LA.

Her sitcom, Starstruck, which she wrote, directed and starred in was commissioned by BBC3 in the UK and HBO Max in the US and ran for three series. The show became the BBC’s best performing new comedy before airing on HBO Max in the US. To date it has sold to over 100 territories around the world. Consistently receiving huge critical praise across the globe, Starstruck has been nominated for Best Comedy Programme at the Broadcast Awards, and Best Comedy Series at the Edinburgh TV Awards while Matafeo has received nominations from Bafta for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme, RTS for Comedy Performance and a National Comedy Award for Best Breakthrough Artist. The show currently has an 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rose is a regular face on TV having featured on shows including Have I Got News For You (BBC One), The Royal Variety Performance (ITV) W1A (BBC One), 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown (Channel 4) House of Games (BBC Two), Big Fat Quiz of the Year (Channel 4), Would I Lie to You (BBC One) and The Graham Norton Show (BBC One). She was also a contestant on series nine of Taskmaster (Dave/Channel 4). She has recently returned to Taskmaster as the host of Junior Taskmaster (Channel 4)

In the US, Rose has performed stand up on Conan (TBS) and has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS) and Late Night with Seth Meyers (NBC). In her native New Zealand Rose was the lead writer and star of the sketch show Funny Girls (TV3), and a regular on panel show 7 Days (Three Now NZ). She cohosts a podcast with fellow New Zealander Alice Snedden called Boners of the Heart.

2020 saw Rose star as the lead in the feature film Baby Done (Piki Films) to great acclaim. Currently she can be seen playing the role of Loto in the new Disney feature Moana 2.
